What is the TCF Youth Mentor Program

This is a program designed for all young people who want to become the best version of themselves.

For 20 weeks our mentors work with program participants to develop their mental and physical fitness in the lead up to an incredible final trekking experience.

The final trek is what brings the process to life - providing a safe setting to face an obstacle that requires days of ongoing effort, with no option to quit when it gets too hard. This is where the lessons and skills gained over the 20 weeks of mentoring come into play and our young people get to see how much they’ve grown and what they can achieve if they just try.

The 2024 program has now started - if you or someone you know would like to be involved in the next program, keep an eye out for our Expressions of Interest process opening again later in the year.

We operate across four regions (Queanbeyan, Braidwood, Goulburn and Canberra), running separate, local 20-week Youth Mentor Program groups before all meeting at the chosen location for the final trekking challenge.

Our volunteer mentors are often teachers, social workers or other passionate individuals from the focus regions who offer our youth a range of perspectives and types of support throughout the process.

We also collaborate with services like PCYC and Headspace to deliver this program

This group’s final trekking challenge was held at Larapinta, Northern Territory.

Guided by their TCF mentors, our 24 young people completed an incredible trekking challenge of 110km over nine days. Watch the video to get a glimpse of how it went.
